London Bridge & Borough SE1
Some great venues in this area, one of the best for darts in central London. Also includes the area just south of Tower Bridge. Nearby areas: Aldgate, Waterloo, and City (just over London Bridge)Recommended pubs
-
Anchor Tap 28 Horselydown Lane
SE1 2LNHidden only metres from Tower Bridge, the darts room is just one feature of this pub of many rooms and friendly locals, incongruous to every hostelry around. The type of pub re-created in films, this is a dart-playing tourists dream - and cheap too.
-
Horseshoe Inn 26 Melior Street
SE1 3QPOne of the more confusing dart pubs of London. It contains three boards, one for general play, one in the restaurant area which teams use, and another in a poky function room upstairs. The function room has a smoking balcony, however, and the pub could be a total gem for a game or two; it was even showing darts on Sky at 2pm on last visit. Has ambiance issues, however, and sometimes feels a little odd.
-
Libertine (ex Town House) 125 Great Suffolk Street
SE1 1PQNew owners have so far retained the darts board and dedicated raised oche area – which make this one of the best options in the area – and have been rewarded by the continued presence of a team, and several other regular punters. Does nice pizzas too apparently.
-
Lord Clyde 27 Clenham Street
SE1 1ERA great pub with friendly staff, but needs a little furniture re-arranging to play, and impossible to get near the board when really busy or football is being shown. Perfect, however, for a gentle afternoon throw, and - presumably - for the team that plays there.
-
Ship 68 Borough Road
SE1 1DXProbably the most functional of the darts pubs in the area, with a dedicated area at the back of this sizeable if characterless boozer. The board seen on visit could do with replacing, but this looks like a sure bet for an empty oche.
-
Wheatsheaf (ex Hop Cellars) 24 Southwark Street
SE1 1TYRe-housed from Borough Market in 2009 due to railway extensions, the new Wheatsheaf is amongst the finest places in London to play darts, with the oche in a dedicated arch.
-
Globe 8 Bedale Street
SE1 9ALFamous from Bridget Jones films, a little sparse and lacking many positives, but has a perfectly good oche bang in the middle of Borough Market.
-
Hand and Marigold 244 Bermondsey Street
SE1 3UHFriendly local pub where the board is rarely in use, but at lunchtime there's a folding cutlery and napkin holder in the way.
-
Old Kings Head Kings Head Yard, 45-49 Borough High Street
SE1 1NAThe confusing barmaid reported a board in the function room upstairs, but apparently you can't play at lunch, as people are eating, and you can't play in the evening as it's shut. "Do you know of any other pubs with boards around here?" "Oh yes" came the reply. "There's lots of pubs around here. But I don't know if any of them have dart boards." Brilliant.
-
Whitesmiths Arms 37 Crosby Row
SE1 3YDVery quiet local with a league team and table and chairs that will need rearranging. Visited August 2010.
