Clerkenwell & Farringdon EC1
Some old-fashioned pubs and cobbled streets make this a good place for a dart-crawl. Nearby areas: Angel, City, Kings Cross & HolbornRecommended pubs
-
Horseshoe 24 Clerkenwell Close
EC1R 0AGOne of London’s finest dart pubs, the landlord takes it seriously, so the quality of the lighting and the board are likely to be top notch (if you care about that). One permanent board downstairs, another hidden behind an incongruous mirror for league nights, which seems to be pretty much every weekday. Three more boards upstairs in the function room.
-
Rising Sun 38 Cloth Fair
EC1A 7JQUp one of the alleys near Smithfield, there's absolutely nothing wrong with this place, and it is surrounded by London's history. (It's also really near the road called Little Britain).
-
Sekforde Arms 34 Sekforde Street
EC1R 0HAProper old local in the quietest street in London. Feels like being in a different world, and a lovely place to play darts, if a little frustrating that the design of the oche makes it difficult to watch others play, and it's on a slight slope. On the plus side, the scoreboard is attached to the cellar door; the occasional suprise opening keeps everyone on their toes. Updated May 2010.
-
Shakespeare 2 Goswell Road
EC1M 7AAA surprising pub in many ways - not least the fact that it has a dart board tucked away at the back with a perfectly reasonable throw. It's also a proper little boozer sitting under a mass of Barbican concrete.
-
Two Brewers 121 Whitecross Street
EC1Y 8JHSomewhat surprising backstreet boozer with men's and ladies teams and anyone welcome. There should be more pubs like this.
-
White Lion 37 Central Street
EC1V 8ABGuaranteed a friendly welcome if the landlady is there, and unlikely to have any competition for the board, except from the pool players who sometimes need to share the oche. The throw may not be very good, but there's something slightly crazy and usually fun about this pub.
-
Old Ivy House 166 Goswell Road
EC1V 7DTPretty grim, and with such choice nearby, there should be no good reason to play here.
-
One Tun 125 Saffron Hill
EC1N 8QSBard kept in a cupboard, with tables and chairs moved for league matches.
